Explore the Andes south of Cusco on a hike around Ausangate, surrounded by snow-capped peaks, vibrant valleys, and seven colorful lagoons. Enjoy the fresh mountain air and experience both adventure and tranquility in the authentic beauty of the Andean world.
The adventure begins early in the morning with hotel pickup in Cusco, heading to the Andean community of Pacchanta, the starting point of our hike. There, you will enjoy a delicious traditional breakfast prepared by local families, perfect for recharging your energy before the trek.
Along the way, peaceful Andean landscapes will accompany you at every step, while alpacas and llamas graze freely and the crisp mountain air revitalizes body and mind.
The route will take you to the stunning lagoons of Pucacocha, Alqacocha, Otorongo, Qomercocha, and others, each displaying unique shades of blue, green, and turquoise, framed by the majestic Ausangate snow-capped mountain, considered sacred by local communities.
At the end of the hike, relax in the Pacchanta hot springs and enjoy lunch before returning to Cusco.
Both meals are served in the village of Cusipata at a countryside restaurant. This ensures a proper breakfast before the hike and a restorative lunch afterward.
The hike to the 7 Lagoons of Ausangate, at the foot of the Ausangate snow-capped mountain, is considered moderate to moderately challenging. It requires considerable physical effort.
Approximately 4.5 hours of walking. The hike is circular, and you should consider stops at each lagoon, rest breaks, and guide explanations. The total distance is about 12 km (7.5 miles).
