The 2-day Inca Trail is an experience that connects you with the history and nature of the Andes. Walk along ancestral paths through the Andean cloud forest, discover Wiñay Wayna and reach Inti Punku, from where you will admire Machu Picchu, and the next day explore and enjoy it.
Our adventure begins early with pickup from your hotel in Cusco and transfer to the Ollantaytambo train station. From there we will take a panoramic train to Km 104, the starting point of the Short Inca Trail. After registering, we will visit the archaeological site of Chachabamba and begin the hike through lush vegetation. The trail will lead us through mountain forest with views of the Urubamba Valley until we reach Wiñay Wayna, famous for its Inca terraces. Then we will continue to Inti Punku, the Sun Gate, where the first view of Machu Picchu appears. Finally, we will take the bus to Aguas Calientes and take you to your hotel so you can rest.
Very early we will take the bus to Machu Picchu to enter the citadel and begin a guided tour of approximately two hours. We will visit temples, agricultural terraces, ceremonial plazas and panoramic viewpoints while discovering the history and legacy of the Inca Empire. After the tour you will have free time to explore at your own pace, take photographs or simply contemplate this place considered one of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World. Later we will return by bus to Aguas Calientes to board the train back to Ollantaytambo, where our transport will be waiting to comfortably take us back to the city of Cusco.
The Short Inca Trail route is approximately 10 to 12 km of hiking, making it an excellent option for those who want to experience the Inca Trail without doing the 4-day trek or who have limited time.
Yes, it is recommended to book at least 3 to 4 months in advance. The Inca Trail has limited daily permits, so it is recommended to reserve several weeks or even months ahead, especially during high season.
A basic to moderate physical condition is recommended, as the hike includes uphill sections and Inca stone steps, although it is much more accessible than the classic 4-day Inca Trail.
The night is spent in a comfortable hotel in Aguas Calientes. The category included in the price is 3 stars; however, you can upgrade if you wish for an additional cost. The hotel is located in the town of Machu Picchu – Aguas Calientes.
The Short Inca Trail allows you to arrive at Machu Picchu on foot through the Sun Gate (Inti Punku), the original entrance used by the Incas, something that does not happen on traditional train tours.
